Flypoet Entertainment was established in 2000 as a vehicle to bring “underground talent” into the light. The founder, John Hensley, a spoken word artist himself, tired of performing in obscure coffee houses and bookstores for audiences made up, primarily, of other performers.
For the artists, he was determined to provide exposure by presenting this form of art to an audience of non–poets in a venue with professional sound and lighting where they wouldn’t have to compete with chatter and cappuccino machines.

For the audience, the formula is simple:

1) Provide a comfortable venue where patrons could relax with food and drinks, and enjoy the best spoken word talent available.
2) Space out the poetry by inserting musical acts and novelties, and infuse more energy into the show by attaining and coordinating the best musicians he can find to back up poets and tear the house down between sets.

Aside from our monthly showcase, unlimited versions of this show are produced for private, civic, and corporate functions, providing work and opportunity for the artists.
